Chapter 14

There’s no such thing as a clean break when it’s real love!

He’s not going to let her stay with him, and I’m pissed as hell she didn’t tell him what she’s gone through the last two years. Her father should know. But it’s her decision. I don’t have to like it, though. Maybe she will tell him while they eat. They need time to reconnect, and then she needs to share the truth.

This wasn’t her fault. She shouldn’t suffer more because once upon a time she fell in love with me.

I watch as she leaves with her father, and instinct has me wanting to follow her. She’s not ready for crowds. I bite back the urge.

“Where’s she goin’?” Skinny asks as I move into the clubhouse main room.

“To get food with him.”

“She ready for that?”

“Nope.” We take a seat at the bar, and I slap my hand down. A prospect brings me a beer, and I take a large swig. “He’s not letting her stay with him, either. And I can’t get ahold of her mother. She’s bein’ a bitch.”

“So what do you suggest?”

“Fuck if I know, but she can’t stay here.” I turn to my brother. “You find anything.”

He shakes his head. “Nope. Nothin’. We’re pullin’ in everything to get some crumbs, but whoever this fucker is—he’s smart. The phone number leads to a pre-paid phone that is no longer in service. We’re hopin’ that Logic can use the locator and give us an idea of where this guy is. If he’s back in Ohio where bitch held Jessica or somewhere close.”

Logic is our tech guru with hacker skills that could land the man with a life sentence in maximum security. If he can’t find a trace, then we’re fucked. “She stays here, she’s in danger.”

“She stays here; she’s got you to protect her,” he fires back.

“Like I did from our mother,” I say, standing and walking off leaving my beer and brother behind.

I feel like a caged animal.

Jessica was caged … trapped, tormented mentally, and I still don’t even have the fucking balls to face if there was anything more done to her.

I feel the need to run. Far. Wide. Fast. I need to get away. Her wrapped around me on my bike…

Fucking shit is heaven.

It’s yet another selfish as fuck memory I’ll hold onto until my last damn breath. After this meeting, there is a strong chance Jessica will return to Hawaii with her father. I hope they can find a way to make it work. It’s the best thing she can do for herself.

Years, I’ve had this terrible burn inside for the dark haired beauty currently down the road. I survived, and I will get through this, too.

An hour passes, all the while, I stand outside the clubhouse lost in a way I’ve never been before.

Drifters.

All our lives, Skinny and I have been on this path going nowhere. Then we found the Rebels. In the club, with the brothers, we found our place. Confidently, we have thrived in life.
